Below are the answers to Frequently Asked Questions about Albuquerque Charter Academy.
We do not charge tuition or fees for any services at Albuquerque Charter Academy. We are a public school authorized by Albuquerque Public Schools.
Albuquerque Charter Academy is open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 100! It is NEVER too late to earn your diploma! One challenge that many of our older students face is a lack of records; high schools sometimes can't provide transcripts for older students. Don't worry - we will gather all of the records we can and help you to get back on track toward your diploma.
Our program is self-paced, which means that you can earn credits as quickly as you complete class requirements. Most of our classes are open-entry/open-exit, which means you can start them at any time, and finish them at any time; you do not need to wait until the beginning of a semester to start a class or the end of a semester to finish a class. Because students work at their own pace and get one-on-one instruction from excellent teachers, most students earn credits much more quickly at ABQCA than at traditional high schools.
Working is an asset, not an obstacle! You earn 1.0 elective credit for every 180 hours that you work while enrolled at ABQCA - just bring us your pay stubs. We can create a schedule for you which works around your job as long as you can attend class for 3 hours per day. If you have a full time job during school hours, as long as you provide documentation of your employment, you can work from home during evenings and weekends. Even if you don't have a computer and can't take our online courses, we can provide you with paper-and-pencil work to take home with you and you can come in once a week to turn in your work and receive new assignments.
Staff at Albuquerque Charter Academy love kids, and are more than willing to help parents earn their high school diplomas and help them improve the lives of their children. We can create a schedule which works with your day care provider, as long as you attend school three hours per day. You can also work from home after you've put the little ones to bed, either through online courses or paper-and-pencil work.
Albuquerque Charter Academy offers a wide range of courses, from graduation requirements in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and PE to elective courses like Game Development, College Success, and Digital Arts. We offer test prep for the ACT, ASVAB, and Accuplacer, and we even offer dual credit courses through CNM which count as high school credit and college credit at the same time, tuition-free! Our full Course Catalog will be posted on our website soon.
Albuquerque Charter Academy is a fully-accredited public high school, and our graduates earn a High School Diploma, not a GED.
